◎ Character's Name: Rinne Rokudo
◎ Character's Canon: Kyoukai no Rinne (released in English as Rin-ne)
◎ Character's Age: 15
◎ Canon Point: Manga, Ch. 210
◎ Background/History: Information on Rin-ne | Information on Rokudo
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Being a Human-Shinigami type thing, Rinne can sense spiritual auras, as well as be able to see spirits with or without his Haori of the Underworld. He cannot into hacking.

◎ Personality: When we first meet Rinne, he's calmly using a Shinigami tool to attract the attention of a chihuahua spirit, who promptly bites his hand and then, devours him. Despite this happening, Rinne didn't lose his cool, remaining completely calm throughout the entire thing. Outwardly, Rinne comes across as perfectly composed, never seeming overly excited or showing much in the way of emotion. He maintains a serious outlook, speaking politely to his clients and those he doesn't know. Even to those who know him well, it's very rare that Rinne actually loses his temper, so far doing so only when a spirit eats chocolate made for him, and doesn't enjoy it because it wasn't for them. Though he's never too happy to see anyone wasting money or worse, wasting HIS money.

He has a strong sense of honor regardless, taking his job as a Shinigami relatively seriously. While he doesn't work for free, he does his best to calm the spirits lurking about so that they can peacefully pass through the Circle of Reincarnation, to be reborn. Even if it's something he doesn't want to do, such as giving up a free tracksuit or passing over a slice of cake he bought, for the sake of his quest, he'll do what it takes to make sure they make it, ranging from helping someone relay feelings they've harbored before their death, or listening to an old woman's stories for hours on end. While he's patient enough to sit through the latter, if he's frustrated, he'll consider an alternative if needs be, to get them to cross over. Regardless, he won't force them any way. When it comes to actual exorcisms, Rinne will fight hard to purify the evil spirit, even moreso if there's a big cash reward for it. Although he's eager to get rewarded, he's still not one to charge in with no plan whatsoever, taking his time to think things through.

With his sense of honor, he refuses to take over his father's Damashigami Company, an group of evil Shinigami that illegally lures living beings to the Afterlife to be reborn, far before their lifespan is due to expire. He finds the idea of that deplorable, and it only helps him harbor bitter feelings towards his father. Rinne's dad, Sabato Rokudo, spent most of Rinne's childhood far away from him, only appearing to take his gift money or gifts to pawn later on. Now that he appears more often in Rinne's life, it's usually to cause mischief, driving a further rift between them. It's led to him despising both his dad and the Damashigami, for all of their evil deeds.

With Sabato out of the picture for most of of his life, he was raised as a child by his human grandfather and his Shinigami grandmother, Tamako. Tamako appears in the main story to help him gain offerings at the weather hutch, and is the reason the female lead, Sakura Mamiya, can see spirits. Rinne opts to not ask for her help and began living in the human world, with her grandmother being unable to accompany him due to a pact she had made upon marrying his grandfather-- after his death, she would no longer be able to live amongst humans, and in exchange for extending his grandfather's life, Tamako, Sabato, and Rinne were to work ten times as much as Shinigami. Rinne still has respect for Tamako as his grandmother, and still goes to her for advice on taking on spirits.

Due to Sabato taking most of his money growing up and in general, the life of a shinigami not paying much, and the constant purchases of Shinigami tools, Rinne is poor. He lives rent free in his school's old club building, with two tatamis to his name. As a result, he takes requests from the school's weather hutch, accepting food or yen as payment for investigating a supernatural happening. Although he's been clear enough to set up a note warning those who give an offering to not be cheap about it. Rinne constantly stresses about the cost of food and Shinigami items, finding anything over 1,000 yen to be far out of his price range for anything. It's not that he's not willing to pay for something that cost if he absolutely has to, but he'd rather not. Rinne loves receiving free things, be it Shinigami tool samples or meals from Sakura Mamiya and Ageha, especially in the case of the latter, being given a kotatsu under the pretense of it being a tool to bring Ageha closer to Rinne.

His poverty brings out negative traits in him as well. Rinne tries to hold onto any of his possessions, especially those that he paid for. When an spirit had infected a house that had the wish to celebrate Christmas, he tried to hide the fact that he had a cake behind his back, reluctant to give it up. He's extremely tight-fisted, and though he asks for much less than his father does, it's not often that he pays back his debt with actual money, if he pays it back at all. While there's guilt on his back as a result of this, he will certainly not ever bring it up if they've forgotten all about it. In a recent story, Rinne was tasked with keeping a crystal ball away from his father, and once it was in his possession, he was tempted to sell it before he realized he was being watched by Sakura Mamiya. He's also not above immediately losing interest in whatever someone's saying, allured by money.

In general, Rinne is respectful of those he speaks to. While he can be bitter from time to time, he always goes back to treating them well after a while. He's especially so of those who are nice to him, such as Sakura Mamiya and her mother. He'll consider them nice, to the point where Sakura Mamiya to him is like an angel, who continuously feeds him and gives him money. Of course, he's fallen for her, but he has trouble expressing that to her. Rinne often, as a Rumiko Takahashi protagonist would, is in the center of many misunderstandings, and he doesn't want Sakura to think he's fallen for another girl. He also winds up being disappointed when she only thinks of him as a classmate, and is pensive at the thought of them pretending to date in order to shake off a boundary overstepping childhood friend. During that trip, he became distracted by Omamori amulets, coming across as wanting to find and sell those more than spend time with Sakura-- in the end, giving up the amulets in order to exorcise a spirit and to eat lunch with Sakura.

That said, his living situation has forced him into being completely humble. Rinne doesn't eat foods above his price range, but he'd still graciously accept sushi or tea if given to him. Although he hasn't in a long time, he very hesitantly asked Sakura for money to purchase Shinigami tools, never going above 500 yen and even thinking that was a lot for her to hand over. It gets to a point where he even has trouble accepting anything that seems high-class for him, like a nice can of fruit, believing in divine retribution for living outside of his class. Speaking of that can of fruit, it hurt him at his core to give it to Sakura Mamiya, only doing so out of what he called "sincerity" for all she had done for him. His home showcases how meager he's living, with two tatami mats ( which get stolen at one point by Sabato, whom he has to chase down to regain ), no electricity, and the only thing to drink being water from the school's water fountains in a kettle.

While he's certainly grateful to Sakura Mamiya giving him free meals and treating him well, he's not always gracious to everyone who throws nothing but good will and gifts towards him. As explained before, he has troubles with the Mikazuki Scythe Shop, with Raito and Refuto appearing constantly in his room to push goods on him. Those he'll reject immediately, though he's been goaded into using them after a bit of pressure. When they cause trouble for him however, he'll push it back onto them, telling them to either not charge him or refund his money. He's also conscious of Ageha's advances, and is constantly irritated by her spending an exorbitant amount of money without blinking and is able to resist what she buys for him, unless he's positive it's not cursed or it's a curse he can ignore, such as a nabe pot being cursed by a small spirit, whom he could just toss away to enjoy the nabe.

In the scope of his work, Rinne Rokudo is always determined to make the most of his abilities and refuses to make someone feel as if they've wasted their money on him. Although he doesn't make money-back guarantees, he always does his best to get the job done, spending the least amount of money with the least amount of interference.

◎ Powers/Abilities: While wearing the Haori of the Underworld, Rinne is able to take on the special abilities of a Shinigami. While wearing it, he can fly throughout the air, and sense the aura of a spirit nearby. He can also only summon his Shinigami Scythe while wearing it.

In general, with him being half human, while he's not wearing his Haori he has the same body as a normal human being.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:Haori of the Underworld - A high class haori, the Haori of the Underworld allows Rinne while he's wearing it to take on the properties of a Shinigami, as well as use his Shinigami abilities. While wearing it, Rinne is unable be seen by anyone who is incapable of seeing spirits. When worn inside out, it allows a spirit to regain their living bodies.

Shinigami Scythe - Rinne's scythe, worth 5,000 yen. A must-have tool for all Shinigami, it allows him to purify evil spirits, sending them directly to the Circle of Reincarnation. It constantly falls into states of disrepair.

Ring of Judgment (second image) - A present from Tamako, the Ring of Judgment is a bracelet that can turn into a shield against any attack that is unjust against Rinne, as well as capture an unjust target and teleport him to someone he's chasing, provided they don't have a strong security system in place. You also must be considered worthy to use it, so if Rinne has impure thoughts (usually about money), he would be unable to use it.
